I wish James Crader lived closer to NY. We have met and worked together in our similar Pilates circles since 2010. He is curious, innovative, fun and a movement dork. This wonderful combination makes him the best kind of Pilates Teacher. He wants to figure out how to get you to do the best Pilates and movement for YOU. His clients are lucky to have him!

I’m an ex-athlete that does all I can to achieve balance, remain active, energetic and physically fit. I’ve been working out consistently for years, with and without a trainer. Several years ago, I started experiencing strength and balance limitations. The limitations grew as core joint pain became chronic in my hips, lower back and upper legs, even as my trainer modified routines to accommodate. I began an intense 8-year journey seeking to regain movement, balance, strength and fitness without this pain. My search took me through Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Sports medicine professionals, doctors, and mounting disappointment as my physical health steadily declined. There were many diagnoses, hopes, prescriptions, suggestions but nothing solved the pain and movement limitations. I invested into Yoga, ice, heat, cold therapy, stretching, Bowen Therapy and all I could do to relieve pain, retain mobility, and generate blood flow to stiff hips, legs and lower back. I was eventually unable to jog or take walks with my family longer than a few hundred yards before the joint spasms, stiffness and pain would force me to stop. Eventually I did find some temporary relief for just a few days every couple of weeks from a Pain Management Doctor at Mercy Medical who provided expensive bi-monthly Lidocaine injections. The injections continued for approximately 12 months, until the head of pain management took over my case, stopped the injections and extensively tested for all likely problems. He eventually prescribed that I find the best Pilates instructor, get personal instruction and invest into rewiring constructive movement and blood flow to my core areas. My search led me to and ended with James Crader, The Evolved Body Studio principal. James is a dedicated exercise and movement subject matter expert, Pilates subject matter expert and Pilates instructor trainer. I have found James to be a passionate constructive holistic movement practitioner and healer. He is also a great inspirational coach. After working with him for just a few months, my movement limitations, pain, joint spasms, began to reverse! I was amazed. He’s customized and provided simple exercises and stretches to address my issues that have become an integral part of my daily routine and make a difference. The sessions with James eventually healed my pain and restored pain free conscious movement into my life. James has a gift: he not only understands the pain and movement limitations (as one who at one time experienced and studied that pain and limitation) he’s a deep understanding of body mechanics ; he also articulates and demonstrates how the body and mind respond to this pain, to exercise, and most importantly he helps direct constructive physical and mental alternative responses and self-discovery through specific movement coaching to experience healing, proper movement mechanics, and strengthening. Retaining, engaging, enabling, and strengthening movement and health is priceless. I am eternally grateful to James Crader for sharing his healing gift with me and my wife!

Working with James has been a very enlightening experience for my knowledge as an athlete. I first began working with him while coming back from a Patellar Tendon knee surgery. James helped me tremendously with post-surgery knee pain by perfecting my movement skills. He was able to pin-point specific flaws in my movement patterns with Pilates exercises and new ways of approaching basic movements like squatting. Overall Pilates has helped me to become a much more efficient mover, which has translated to less overall body pain, improved power output, and made basic everyday movements more effortless. I would recommend James to an athlete or anyone who wants to improve their athletic performance and everyday life.

James does magic when I have muscular or other soft tissue problems. Knots, stiffness, and limitations on range of motion disappear under his therapies. I have often walked in with tightness, headaches and neck aches and walked out of the same session very much improved. I became such a believer in his work and modalities that I signed up for recurrent sessions to prevent pain recurrence and improve my motion. Others in my household have benefitted from even a single hour as James goes after the roots of pain, aches, and stiffness. Once you see James, massage becomes a distant second.

As a horse riding instructor, I focus on the importance of teaching riders the art of riding Dressage and Western Dressage in a systematic teaching style that breaks down in detail the mechanics of the rider’s position in the saddle. Riders are athletes, they possess different body types, builds, abilities and very often they also have limitations and past physical issues. Although riders can often achieve a great level of improvement with good instruction and correct body mechanics in the saddle, there are riders that experience a block in their riding progress because their body cannot cooperate with the tasks needed for enhanced riding communication with their horses. James Crader has worked with several of my riding students in order to assist them with these body blocks and weaknesses, and I have been thrilled with the results. James has helped these riders have more flexibility and connection with their body, helped them let go of unnecessary restrictions in order to unlock those blocks within their body, and gain new insight and strengthening skills around how to become stronger, more stable riders. Through James, several of the on-going issues I have had with these students have been addressed and RESOLVED. It is thrilling to see how this has enhanced the rider’s ability to progress with their horse/s. James is definitely an asset for riders and to my own teaching program. Regularly during riding lessons with these students I have informed them of a particular movement issue they are having, and they take this information to James to work on directly. The results from this collaboration are wonderful. The rider experiences the positive result physically; it increases their strength and body awareness, and creates an understanding of how THEY can fix the issue. Ultimately, this makes a tremendous difference in the responsiveness of the student’s horse, allowing them to progress more quickly and reach the goals they are striving for with their horse. I am very appreciative of James’ expertise and definitely recommend him for anyone wanting positive results leading towards a more active, athletic, and healthy body.

Having recently moved to the East Coast, on the list of things I miss most are my sessions with James Crader at Evolved Body. Six years ago, at the age of 76 years, I was hit by a car and spent the next three months recovering in a wheel chair. A friend told me about James. He was wonderful. He helped me regain my strength, the ability for a healthier and more satisfying life, and he improved my breathing! He is a very knowledgable, experienced instructor, and friend. Of course his pleasant personality and wit are a plus. If I did not live three-thousand miles away, I’d be back in class in a heartbeat.
